Any time that one gets to travel in India, it’s a cause for celebration. It’s an amazing place, and many people hope to visit it during their lifetime and never get the opportunity. There are many fantastic places to see here, and everyone here will have a thousand recommendations, and the diaspora is very large and so everywhere you go in the world, there will be more recommendations. If you can listen to all of them, it’s a great idea, because word of mouth can reveal many things that might have gone unnoticed otherwise. Mumbai, of course, is one of the most exciting cities in the country, and in the entire world.
There is always something exciting and interesting happening in Mumbai, and there’s truly no other place on earth like it. It has an unusual, and very intense, energy, and it’s been like that for centuries. Some of the greatest minds and talents in the world are drawn here, looking to meet similar sensibilities. It’s a very accessible place for tourists, as there are many fantastic hotels. Mumbai, India offers something spectacular for everyone, and this is particularly evident in the art. While there are some amazing museums where one can find classical works, there is also very edgy new work, like that of ChitraKarKhana.
This is an ongoing project by local Mumbai artist Shaina Anand, who is an enormously prolific filmmaker and media critic. Her form is usually documentary, and she’s made and been involved in a stunning number of projects, and seems to be showing no signs at all of slowing down. Part of her aesthetic is the DIY, Do-It-Yourself, school of filmmaking, often doing projects with low or no budget. It’s extraordinary work, and shows a great deal of compassion for the human race, which is something we are always finding in short supply. She is also the winner of a Charles Waller Indian Trust award, and has shown work all over the world, including the amazing Ars Electronica in Linz. This is a cutting edge facility, with extremely far-sighted technicians and artists working on science and the future in art, and her work falls splendidly into their rhizomatic notions of what is possible right now.

When Guns N Roses new album Chinese Democracy came out on November 23, 2009 everyone thought it was a sure thing for the number 1 position in the pop charts. However Kanye West and Taylor Swift put paid to that!
Kanye’s album shifted 450,100 units while Guns N Roses sold 261, 200 in its first week after release. Fans had been waiting 17 years for the record…but it seems like many fans have lost interest.
Country singer Taylor Swift ranked at number two with sales of 267,400 of Fearless her latest album.

Burt and Jean were finishing their final exams at Arizona State University when they both happened to be struck with a desire to get out of town. It was May in the desert and it was the beginning of a record setting summer and the two students already needed relief. And while it’s true that summer had not yet started if you want to be technical about it, you shouldn’t say that too loud in Phoenix. And any Phoenician will tell you that summer is one of two seasons and it lasts at least half of the year. Something slightly resembling fall is the other season and it lasts a few months somewhere in-between November and February.
However, with that in mind, both of the students would also be the first to defend the beauty of the desert and the greatness of their city. Unlike most of the residents in Phoenix, both Burt and Jean were natives, they were born there. And also somewhat unlikely at ASU, they were both in-state students. They were well accustomed to the amazing sunsets and sunrises they experienced almost daily and they also loved the monsoons that would be arriving in mid to late July. In addition there is openness to the desert that makes it difficult to live anywhere else once you’ve been there a while. In fact, Phoenix has one of the highest rates of return citizenship for those who have moved away.
There is also a great deal of cultural attractions, and professional sports teams to keep everyone happy and attract numerous tourists to the best hotels Phoenix every year. Some of them even go so far as to live in Phoenix during the non-summer season, these residents are referred to as snow birds. The Herberger Theater Center, The Phoenix Art Museum and the Arizona Science Center are only three of the many cultural establishments in Phoenix. And this doesn’t include those in the surrounding cities such as Mesa, Scottsdale, Glendale and Tempe where Burt and Jean lived. So, while the students were looking forward to a brief exit, they loved their city and the desert and would be back soon.

After finding the best accommodation Sydney Australia has to offer, travelers might plan a trip to the Taronga Zoo in order to see the city from afar. The zoo, begun in 1916, is set on nine acres of land and affords a spectacular view of the Sydney skyline, including the world-famous Sydney Opera House. From the Northern bank of Sydney Harbor, you’ll be able to not only enjoy the animals, but all of the panorama of the city itself. It’s no secret to anyone who knows Aboriginal words:The zoo’s name, Taronga, literally means beautiful view.
Over the years, the zoo has undergone any changes and additions, especially after a critical review 42 years ago gave rise to more of a focus on education, preservation, and conservation. Today, the zoo is in the midst of a twelve year $69 million plan to upgrade conditions. Five Asian elephants were provided to the zoo from Thailand in order to breed them, educate zoo patrons, as well as to conduct research. The elephants are currently housed in the precinct known as “Wild Asia” which strives to immerse the zoo patrons in the environment of a rainforest. In July of 2009, an Asian elephant birthed Luk Chai, a male calf, the first ever to be born in Australia. The zoo is hoping the mother, Thong Dee, will give birth twice more in the course of the next two years.
While the Zoo keeps many traditional inhabitants — such as lions and giraffes, zebras and elephants, and so on — they also have an impressive array of native creatures: bandicoots, gliders, and quoll, as well as other rare nocturnal animals. The zoo keeps on hand wombats, koalas, and even a Tasmanian Devil, as well as a Bridled Nail-tailed Wallaby. This latter animal can’t be seen anywhere else but here, and considered at first to be extinct until they were “re-discovered” in 1973, in Queensland.

Joe and Rita went to Fort Worth, Texas together on a three day trip. They went because Joe was sent there for a business merging negotiation meeting and Rita hadn’t gotten away for quite a while and she thought that would be the perfect opportunity to. So, they stayed in the fabulous room in one of the Fort Worth luxury hotels that was provided by Joe’s employer and Rita enjoyed an early morning massage while Joe prepared for his meeting.
After Joe left Rita decided she would visit some sites in the city that were of interest to her, but probably not to Joe. One of these was the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. She wasn’t overly familiar with this museum, though visiting major museums in cities was almost always one of her top priorities when Rita traveled. Almost instantly she was attracted to the current featured exhibit of Susan Rothenberg’s work. She loved the early horse paintings and their special arrangements. The name of the exhibit is Moving in Place, and Rita thought this was extremely appropriate for the work.
She then moved on to the museum’s permanent collection and was impressed with the extent of it. She also appreciated what she understood to be their holistic or evolutionary perspective on a permanent collection. As she walked along the walls and through the corridors she made mental notes of specific work from artists she was previously unfamiliar with. One of them was the dark self-portrait of Francis Bacon, which she couldn’t stop looking at. As she moved along she stopped in front of a Cubist work with a distinct style. She knew she was looking at Pablo Picasso, but was unfamiliar with the painting in front of her. The title of it is Femme couchee lisant, which in English translates as reclining woman reading. And Rita felt that the painting perfectly represented what she would like to be doing. She ordered a print of this work and now has it hanging in her and Joe’s study.

Deciding to create a backyard kitchen will not only open up your life to new opportunities for entertaining, but this decision may end up taking you places. At home, out door grilling and food preparation may seem a bit of a hassle, but with the outdoor kitchen this will not be an issue. An outdoor sink, refrigerator and grill will cut down the time you spend going back and forth, from indoor kitchen to outdoor grill. Your time will be spent perfecting your own recipes, in a convenient setting and in a beautiful setting.
Depending on the design, guests may be able to sit at the bar, and talk with you while you are preparing the night’s dishes. Once you have done this enough times, you may be tempted to take your recipes to strangers, to festivals and competitions across the country. Barbecue and Blues. These are two things I personally remember about my years living in Chicago, Illinois. I did not gain these memories through the myriad of BBQ and Blues joints in Chicago, but from my next door neighbor Catherine. Each weekend I would awake to the music of the legendary musicians and to the scents that Catherine filled the neighborhood with, on her tiny backyard grill.
Now I look to recreate that experience in the festivals that happen around the country. One such festival happens in Arkansas. The “Bikes, Blues & BBQ Rally” has been going on for the past ten years. The rally is a moving one, through the cities of Northwestern Arkansas, all the proceeds are donated to local charities, and the motorcycles, the music and the BBQ draws crowds. Many teams of chefs travel each year to compete with their own recipes, with accompaniment provided by such Blues legends as Big Bad Bubba, Steve Pryor, and Oreo Blue. The best of sauces and spices are to be found during the taste sampling hours, and the best of the Blues is found throughout the day. What a better way to take your recipes on the road?

George played the saxophone. George loved the saxophone. For as long as George could remember, all he wanted to do was play the saxophone in a jazz band. George loved jazz. He actually began playing in various clubs at an early age and had special permission to play in some of them. He grew up in Fremont, California and was living there in an apartment with two friends and going to school at Berkeley. George loved Berkeley. Naturally he was studying jazz saxophone at the university.
One Saturday afternoon George was working on a new saxophone solo that he had started as a class assignment. The phone rang and it was his good friend Steve, who played the double bass. George was about to tell him that he was busy and couldn’t talk just then when the excitement in Steve’s voice caught his attention. Steve told his friend that he had just confirmed a gig for the two of them at Anna’s Jazz Island. George couldn’t believe it and made his friend swear it on his bass. It was true, the duo had their first gig together and it was two weeks from that night at Anna’s.
George got off the phone and went right back to working on his solo. He felt strongly that this was going to be part of a longer piece or even a song, but for their upcoming show he simply wanted to be able to showcase what he had. George had played with a trio until six months ago and they had most of their gigs in Fremont. They had also enjoyed playing open mic nights in their hometown and had many great memories from places like The Essanay Café and Coffee Roasters. Now he was set on making a name for himself across the Bay before taking on the rest of the world. He called his best friend, who had moved to Los Angeles the year before, who agreed to fly in and stay at one of the hotels Fremont to see the show.

India might be a mystery wrapped in an enigma, but it is also one of the most visited countries on the planet. It has been inhabited by human populations for thousands of years, and it continues to attract a steady stream of tourists, business travelers, or people who are curious about their roots. For each of these groups, it can always be a kind of homecoming experience, because this vast and complex place has a way of taking people in that is unlike any other place on earth. There are many regions, and many cultures, and it’s impossible to see them all in just one lifetime. Likewise, it is impossible to see everything in any of India’s largest cities in one lifetime, much less in one visit. But it’s awfully fun to try.
There are many fabulous things to see and do here. Spectacular clubs, restaurants and lodgings are always available in India. Five-star hotels might be the most exquisite way to see a place, India’s hotels specialize in a lovely hospitality that is always overwhelming and rather wonderful. It’s a great place to go to get away from the familiar and everyday for many people, but also be aware that the culture you leave behind is probably waiting somewhere else to catch up to you. That’s what many people discovered in the summer of 2008, when Snoop Dogg made his way to Bollywood.
He worked with the famous Akshay Kumar, who has recently transitioned his roles to become a great comedic performer in the international film circuit. Their film, Sing is Kinng is a transcultural vehicle in itself, where Punjabi and Sikh cultures meet in Australia, and parallels are drawn with hip hop culture in the U.S. There is an interesting blend of rhythms in world music, and sampling is a regular feature now even in the most accessible pop, so it’s no surprise when hip hop meet Bollywood, but it still takes the ingenuity and the compassion of the artists of the world to connect the dots and make connections that tie us all together.

When we got to the island of Tenerife, we had to get on a coach bus and ride for about an hour untile we got to the southern area of the island, the airport is located in the northeastern part of Tenerfie. The bus ride was kind of interesting, partly because most of the landscape was still pretty pristine, untouched and partly because I met this really fun girl, same age as me, travelling on her own too.
I should explain a little bit about the Canary Islands. The islands are a series of volcanic rock located off the western coast of Africa. Geologically speaking, the Canary Islands are cool. I literally mean cool. I took geology last semester and I did a report about volcanic activities in the Atlantic. The islands formation is extremely rare due to there location and that nothing else has popped up, so to speak. The area where these islands occurred is an area where molten rock underneath the tectonic plates rose to the surface and broke through the oceanic plate and formed volcanoes. While the tectonic plates continued to move over the earth’s surface, this same area, where the molten rock was able to break to the surface a new volcano would arise. As soon as the lava ran out and dried, it turns into an island. These islands.
Enough with the history of the Canary Islands. On to my excursion. After checking into one of the 5 star hotels in Tenerife, which was really nice! I quickly put on my swimming suit and headed to the beach. It was on my way that I ran into that same fun girl with which I met on the bus ride over here, and we agreed to hang out together as much as possible. We laid out on black sand and enjoyed the amazing landscape until the sun was setting. We then when to dinner, and after a huge meal, I headed straight for my hotel room to get some much needed sleep, because tomorrow my adventure really starts!
